HOUSTON, Oct. 21, 2025 — University of Louisville head football coach Jeff Brohm has been named Paul “Bear” Bryant National Coach of the Week after the Cardinals’ 24-21 upset win over No. 2 Miami on Friday.
With its first win over an AP Top 10 opponent on the road in program history, Louisville’s win also ties the program record for the highest ranked opponent the Cardinals have ever defeated – matching a win over then-No. 2 Florida State in 2016.
The American Heart Association, a relentless force changing the future of health for everyone everywhere, presents the Bear Bryant Awards annually to celebrate excellence in coaching, to honor Coach Bryant’s legacy and to raise awareness and critical funds for its mission. The coaching legend died from a heart attack in 1983, just 28 days after his final victory and retirement.
After Miller Moss capped an 11-play, 75-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown run in the opening quarter, Louisville never trailed, opening up a lead of as many as 11 points (24-13) in the fourth quarter after Moss connected with Chris Bell on a 36-yard touchdown strike, the second connection between the two of the game. Miami was able to cut its deficit to three (24-21) with 7:37 to play, but the Louisville defense stood firm and T.J. Capers’ interception with 32 seconds remaining sealed the win.
With the win, Brohm moves to 24-9 at Louisville and 90-53 overall.
Brohm is the fourth coach from the ACC to capture weekly honors this season. He follows last week’s selection of Indiana’s Curt Cignetti, and previous selections of UCLA’s Tim Skipper, Virginia’s Tony Elliott, Syracuse’s Fran Brown, Texas A&M’s Mike Elko, USF’s Alex Golesh and Florida State’s Mike Norvell.
Continuing through the remainder of the regular season, the Paul “Bear” Bryant Awards will recognize a coach weekly for leading their team to an exceptional victory. The National Coach of the Week award is chosen by a committee of national college football media members.
